Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This wine has a deep initial aroma that hints at macerated plums, cherries and damp mossy earth. Upon tasting I find cherries, raspberries, chamomile tea and a pleasant baked piecrust. The finish is long and highlights tart fruit notes and evergreen.
2015 Tanbark Mill Vineyard Pinot Noir

2015 Tanbark Mill Vineyard Pinot Noir

This Pinot Noir comes from the "deep end" of Anderson Valley. It performs quite a feat by being deep and powerful, yet simultaneously light on its feet. Dark berry flavors frames with notes of orange peel and conifers.

Tanbark Mill Vineyard sits in the deep end of Mendocino's Anderson Valley, just past the Hendy Woods State Park. As the name suggests, the site was an old tanbark mill at the end of the 1800s.

The vineyard begins near Highway 128 and gently slopes down towards the Navarro River. The soils are more sedimentary near the river with small cobblestones and sand under a thin layer of loam. As you move up from the river towards the road, the soils become a bit deeper with clay loam, but still with a sandstone and small rock underlying structure.

The vineyard is located four miles closer to the coast than Philo, therfore the temperatures are very cool. The vines produce wines with intensity and depth but also a sense of lightness. These qualities are the benchmark the world looks for in fine Pinot Noir.

We source a number of different Pinot clones from different sections of the vineyard including Martini clone, which is the closest to the river. Also 828 and 115, which is mid-vineyard and closer to the road. We ferment and age each parcel seperately so that we can make the ideal selection for this vineyard designate bottling.
